SAMHSA Announces Over $7 Million in Funding for Targeted Substance Use Treatment Projects
On June 27th, the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) issued a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) seeking organizations to implement targeted strategies to improve treatment and services for substance usedisorder (SUD) and/or co-occurring substance misuse and mental disorders (COD). SAMHSA will provide up to $375,000 in annual funding across 19 awards.
Award recipients will be expected to:
- Conduct screening and assessment for SUD/COD and suicide risk;
- Provide treatment for SUD/COD (SUD treatment required in-house but COD treatment may be provided by a partner);
- Provide harm reduction services (e.g., distribution of naloxone or fentanyl test strips);
- Develop and implement tobacco cessation programs or activities for people with SUD/COD; and
- Provide peer recovery support services and case management.
Eligible applicants include public and private not-for-profit entities. Contracts will last for up to three years, starting September 30th.

SAMHSA Announces Over $1 Million in Funding for Treatment and Recovery Services for Youth and Young Adults
On June 27th, SAMHSA issued a NOFO seeking organizations to enhance comprehensive treatment services for youth (ages 12-17) and young adults (ages 18-25) with SUD and/or COD and their families/caregivers. SAMHSA will provide up to $545,000 in annualfunding across two awards.
Award recipients will be expected to:
- Provide SUD and/or COD screening, assessment, treatment, wraparound, and recovery support services in an integrated outpatient, intensive outpatient, or day treatment setting;
- Ensure services are available beyond traditional hours, specifically during evenings and weekends;
- Collaborate with other youth-serving organizations, such as behavioral health, juvenile justice, child welfare, and education organizations;
- Provide education on medication treatment, overdose prevention, and opioid overdose reversal mechanisms; and
- Provide brief intervention to promote a tobacco-free lifestyle and offer Nicotine Replacement Therapy options.
Eligible applicants include public and private not-for-profit entities. Contracts will last for up to five years, starting September 30th.
